New York City dispensaries near Times Square (2026)

Take the subway to Times Sq-42 St. It is one MTA station complex served by the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W and S (42 St Shuttle), with the A, C and E at 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal in the same complex.

The MTA lists every Times Sq-42 St platform and the 42 St-Port Authority station as fully ADA-accessible. Nearby 42 St-Bryant Pk (B, D, F, M) is not accessible, while 34 St-Herald Sq (B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W) is. The 49 St station (N, R, W) is accessible for uptown trains only.

Qube at 1412 Broadway is about 120 m from the Times Sq-42 St N, Q, R, W platforms. Hells Kitchen Cannabis Co. at 356 West 40th Street is about 240 m from the 42 St-Port Authority A, C, E station. The store at 719 Seventh Avenue sits at the 49 St stop, and its own directions put it about a five-minute walk north of Times Sq-42 St along Seventh Avenue. These distances are straight-line figures from MTA station coordinates, not walking routes.

If you drive, the Seventh Avenue store points drivers to garages within a few blocks and says street parking is very limited. Consuming cannabis in a car on a public road is prohibited.

OCM's license data listed 86 operational licensed retail locations in Manhattan (New York County) on 23 Sep 2026, and 14 of them are in ZIP codes 10018, 10019 and 10036. An unlicensed smoke shop near the theaters is never your only option.

New York legalized adult-use cannabis when the Marihuana Regulation and Taxation Act (Senate bill S854-A) was signed on 31 Mar 2021 as Chapter 92. The first legal adult-use sales came 21 months later, on 29 Dec 2022, at Housing Works Cannabis Co, 750 Broadway just north of Astor Place.

Housing Works, a nonprofit, opened its store to the public at 4:20 p.m. that day, after a 10 a.m. news conference. It held a Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) license, and OCM says CAURD licensees were the first retail dispensaries to open for adult-use sales in the state. Time Out reported it was one of the first 36 licenses issued and one of eight that went to nonprofits.

Licensed stores reached Times Square while the city was closing unlicensed ones. ABC7 reported on 20 Jun 2024 that Nicklz, on Eighth Avenue at 48th Street, had opened across the street from an illegal shop that police padlocked. OCM records show Qube at 1412 Broadway opened to the public on 10 Jul 2024, the store at 719 Seventh Avenue on 9 Dec 2024, and Hells Kitchen Cannabis Co. on 8 Mar 2025.

The market has grown since. New York's adult-use and medical retail sales reached $895.4 million for 2026 through June, and OCM had issued 2,296 adult-use licenses, including 531 retail dispensary licenses and 359 CAURD licenses, by the Cannabis Control Board meeting of 2 Jul 2026. OCM says state cannabis tax revenue goes 40% to education, 40% to community grants reinvestment and 20% to drug treatment and public education.

Two federal moves and one state program. Medical marijuana was partly rescheduled, the TSA updated its medical marijuana entry, and OCM opened applications for Cannabis Showcase Events. None of them changes the basics for a visitor buying adult-use cannabis in Midtown.

The federal rule took effect on 28 Apr 2026 and covers FDA-approved products and state-licensed medical marijuana only. The TSA's medical marijuana entry was last updated on 27 Apr 2026. OCM still says leaving New York with any cannabis product is against the law.

OCM opened applications on 4 May 2026 for Cannabis Showcase Events, which let licensed dispensaries sell at approved pop-ups, farmers markets and public markets with written approval from the host municipality. Events must check that guests are 21+, ban on-site consumption and free samples, and can run for up to 14 consecutive days, with each venue limited to 45 event days a year. In New York City, applicants seek that municipal approval through Cannabis NYC.

Two regulator changes shape which stores open next. Amendments to 9 NYCRR 119.4, effective 5 Nov 2025, restrict new retail dispensary and microbusiness licenses within a set radius of another licensed store unless the Cannabis Control Board grants a waiver. In July 2026, OCM revised its 2026 adult-use sales forecast to $2.0 billion to $2.5 billion, saying the change came from its move to Metrc reporting, not from falling sales.
