Cannabis rules for visitors, state by state

What adults 21 and older can buy, carry and use in each state we cover, with the statute or regulator page behind every rule. Each page is reviewed at least quarterly. Crossing a state line with cannabis is illegal in every direction, including between two legal states, so read the page for the state you are standing in.

Adult-use states

17 states where adults 21+ can buy without a medical card

Medical-only states

The limit that matters most, state by state

Each sign shows the purchase or possession limit its state's regulator publishes. Tap a sign for the full page.

Before you cross a state line

Every state page on this site says the same thing about borders: cannabis bought legally in one state cannot be carried into another, because transport across a state line is a federal matter. Airport security is federal too. Finish or leave what you bought, then read the next state's page before you shop again.

Three guides cover the questions that come up on the road: the rules for tourists, flying with cannabis and driving with it in the car.

How these pages are made

Each state page cites the statute, regulation or regulator page behind every limit, tax and rule, with the date we read it. We review every state at least once a quarter and after any rule change we can date, and the review date sits at the top of each page. States are added one at a time, each with its own license data source, before any city guide inside it. Corrections go to desk@cannabiscityguides.com.
